Hugh McFarlane, 63, of Tampa Florida passed away very unexpectedly on the night of December 23rd, 2017. Hugh was born to Esperanza and Arthur McFarlane of Kingston, Jamaica on July 21st 1954. After graduating High School in West Orange High School, New Jersey, he attended the University of Florida where he became a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. In addition, he played basketball, ran track, illustrated photos and wrote articles for the University. He was also an avid poet and philosopher. Hugh worked in the Real Estate industry as an entrepreneur for many years. He worked feverishly to increase his spiritual knowledge and help others to connect with their spirituality. He was a deeply spiritual man and never wanted to be defined or put in a religious category. However, he was a follower of Jesus Christ and was a fervent follower of A Course in Miracles and donated much of his time to inspiring faith and hope in others. Hugh had a fiery passion for family. He loved to spend time with his daughters, grandchildren and friends. Hugh is survived by his loving daughters Marisa McFarlane and her loving children Bryan, Elysia and Isaac; Avia Taylor and spouse Dwayne and children, Jovaun, Dashawn, and Dwayne; and Jennifer Brown and spouse Charles and four children, Cherish; Chelsea; Cameron and Christian. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Sam McFarlane and spouse Judy, Mary Jones and spouse Renny, Charmaine Pigue and spouse Roy, Gary Bucknell, Robert Bucknell and Rocky. In addition, he is survived by multitudes of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Those closest to him described him as being full of love & laughter. He was the forever optimist who could see the silver lining in every situation. He loved to reminisce about old times, his college days, in addition to interacting with his Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers. He was a proud father, grandfather, great writer, speaker, artist and philosopher at heart. He was a special gift from God to us. We will all miss him dearly.
