Donald “Don” Wayne Chandler, 89 years, of Clearwater, Florida, died January 6, 2019. Born in Easton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John P. and Gertrude Kummer Chandler, and the husband of the late Helen Rainey Chandler, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, before her death in 2008.
Don was a 1946 graduate of Easton High School and a 1958 master's degree graduate of the University of Delaware. He served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and in 1948 joined the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1956. Subsequent to receiving his master’s degree, Don joined E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company (DuPont) as a sales representative, and he worked for them until his retirement in 1985, at which time Don joined his wife in the running of Sheldon Enterprises, Inc., a company founded by Helen Chandler in 1971.
Don loved talking to people, everywhere about anything. His outgoing, fun loving personality and sense of humor were a joy to many, and he will be sorely missed. Don was a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a fan of Frank Sinatra, and a fan of food – especially McDonald’s coffee, Applebee’s ribs, and Olive Garden’s soup and salad.
Don is survived by his daughter, Sherri Chandler Rivera, and his granddaughter, Samantha Maria Rivera. He is also survived by two nieces and three nephews, and many grandnephews and grandnieces. In addition to his wife, Don was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Brotzman and May West.
