Joyce Novak, formerly of Waverly, New York was born April 8, 1943. She was born to Gilbert and Teresa Casterline. Joyce died suddenly on October 24, 2018 due to a stroke while in Clearwater, Florida.
Joyce graduated from Waverly High School in 1961. She then went on to nursing school in Binghamton where she became a Registered Nurse. Joyce worked as a nurse for over 38 years. She retired from Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital after working in the ER, ICU and Cardiac Center. After retirement, Joyce spent many years working in the wine industry. She worked at various wineries around Seneca Lake including Goosewatch, Penguin Bay, and Swedish Hill. Joyce also spent some time working at Nagy’s Winery which is now Three Brother’s Winery. Joyce loved her job and meeting new people. She truly enjoyed sharing her knowledge and love for wine with others.
During her time off, Joyce enjoyed making quilts for family, friends and charitable organizations. She was a member of various quilting clubs. Joyce and her husband Robert retired to Lake Shore Landing on Seneca Lake, New York. There they enjoyed the beautiful evening summer sunsets across the lake. In the winter, they spent their time in Orchid Park in New Port Richey, Florida. Joyce especially loved spending time with her three grandchildren. This includes granddaughter Krysdina and her husband Tyler Grinnell; grandson Thomas Novak; granddaughter MarahLee Novak and her boyfriend Norman Serinsky.
Joyce is survived by her husband Robert Novak. Joyce and Robert were married for 53 years. She is also survived by her son Tom Novak and daughter in law Vickie. Joyce and her family enjoyed, boat rides, family dinners, watching the sunsets, and spending time going out to different places together.
Joyce is survived by her five brothers and one sister. They include Fred Casterline and his wife Sondra; Dick Casterline and his wife Donna; Terry Casterline and his wife Krista; Cliff Casterline and his wife Ruth; Mike Castertline and his wife Pam and sister Janet and her husband Bob Hurlbut. Joyce is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Joyce on December 2, 2018 at 1:00 PM. This will be held at the American Legion located at 2083 W. Seneca Street in Ovid, New York.
