Bonita Jean Buttrey Telling died in Largo Florida February 4, 2015 at the age of 91. Bonnie is buried next to her husband Ray in Dunedin Cemetery, Dunedin Florida.Bonnie was born July 17, 1923 in Aurora Illinois to Aura Ruth Taxis and Arthur "Art" Buttrey. Bonnie's brother Robert "Bob" Buttrey was born May 25, 1925.Bonnie's mother was born September 26, 1895 in Mazon Illinois and her father was born May 24, 1891 in Quincy Illinois. Art was a grocer, prior to creating an insurance agency in Aurora. Bonnie's brother also managed the insurance agency in Aurora until his death in 1972.Bonnie received the National Honor Society Award upon graduation from Aurora West High School class of 1941. She then prepared for her trip by train to the east coast to attend Wellesley College in Massachusetts. Here she met her roommate Donnitt who became a lifelong friend.After graduation Bonnie was employed by Price Waterhouse & Co. in Chicago where she met her husband Gordon Raymond Telling. Ray was born September 7, 1922 in Danville Illinois. Prior to joining Price Waterhouse as a CPA, Ray graduated from the University of Illinois and volunteered for military service during World War II. Chicago was great for them. Bonnie and Ray especially enjoyed dinner dances at the Drake Hotel.Before getting married Bonnie travelled across the country with two friends. The three sought out family members to stay with as they headed west. After several weeks on the road they arrived in San Francisco as the Lurline steamed into the harbor and docked. The cruise ship was bound for Hawaii. Bonnie and her companions pooled resources for a sea voyage and found themselves on the doorstep of the Grand Hawaiian Hotel.Bonnie and Ray were married on May 7, 1949. Their marriage continued 62 years until Ray's death on December 5, 2011. They lived in several cities including Madison Wisconsin, Plattsburgh New York and Largo Florida. Bonnie began a Telling tradition of family reunions every three years.Bonnie is survived by her four children Martha Telling Witrak living in Duluth MN, Jennifer Telling Hays living in Herkimer NY, Tom Telling living in Bristol, VT and Jim Telling living in Truckee CA. Bonnie has 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Some she did not know as she struggled with dementia. Funeral Service will be held Saturday February 7th at 10:00AM in Sunset Point Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Dunedin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice Foundation 5771 Roosevelt Blvd. Clearwater Florida 33760.
