Glenda O'Dowd Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Glenda O'Dowd, 74 of Largo, Former Peoria Illinois resident and Florida resident for over 40 years, died September 10, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, September 16, 2011 at 11am at Light of Christ Catholic Church, Clearwater Florida with reception to follow immediately after at the church hall. Glenda was born October 20, 1936 in Peoria, Illinois to Glenn and Olive FrAres. Glenda was raised in a close knit family with many aunts, uncles and cousins who she shared many fun and loving times with. She attended both Marquette University and Bradley University. She married James John O'Dowd, a Chemical Engineer with Celotex/Jim Walter Research Corporation in 1959. Glenda and Jim were married for 43 years. They moved to Clearwater Florida in 1967, where they raised their four children. Glenda was best known for her sense of humor and active social life. She belonged to many organizations including: Suncoast New Neighbors, Sandpipers Club, Sertoma, Beta Sigma Phi, numerous bridge clubs, bowling leagues, and Red Hats club. Her interests included family, bridge, sorority, socializing, reading, telling jokes, bingo and going to the Hard Rock Casino, where she often won! Glenda is survived by her four children Tish, Larry, Rick and Doug, nine grandchildren: Cassandra, Alicia, Andrew, Elyse, Audrey, John, Kevin, Liam and Aidan and two great-grandchildren: Neela and Charlie. She is also survived by her brother Jay Freres of Largo. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to either the Kimberly Home or the Sertoma.
