Phyllis M. Skaggs Seslar Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Phyllis M. Skaggs Seslar, 78 passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014. She was born the only child of the late Tenner and Evelena Tackett on July 31, 1935 in Johnson County, Kentucky.Phyllis graduated from Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio earning a BA in Elementary Education. She married the late James Skaggs in Richmond, Indiana and they resided in Dublin, Ohio, Lowmansville, Kentucky and Cocoa, Florida.Phyllis began her teaching career in a one-room school house instructing eight grade levels. Later, she taught 5th grade at Jerome Elementary until 1979. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students and still communicated with several students she taught in the 1950s.Several years after her husband's death, Phyllis was reintroduced to the widowed father of one of her former 5th grade students. She married Robert Seslar in 2009 and they resided in Palm Harbor, Florida.Phyllis was a member of First Baptist Church in Paintsville, Kentucky and attended North Bay Community Church locally.Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Robert, and two sons, James P. Skaggs (Judi) of Cocoa, Florida, and Timothy Skaggs (Janet Rae), of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by two grandsons, Jimmy Skaggs (Shavaun), of Rockledge, Florida and Jeffrey Skaggs, of Houston, Texas as well as two great-grandchildren, Anna Skaggs and Jacob Skaggs of Rockledge, Florida. She is also survived by two step-children, and former students, Deborah Boyle (Wally), of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Bob Seslar, Jr. (Anne) of Denver, North Carolina as well as countless friends, neighbors, and students.A memorial service will be held soon at the North Bay Community Church on McMullen Booth Road followed by a luncheon at the church.
