Robert Edward "Ed" Mills

October 6, 1925 - February 16, 2013

R. Edward "Ed" Mills, 87,of Clearwater passed away Feb. 16, 2013. Ed was born in Raleigh, NC on October 6, 1925 to W. Hartwick (Hardy) Mills Sr. & Jessie Quinn Mills. He graduated from Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC. Ed attended NC State University in the school of engineering. He then graduated from Bliss Electrical School in Washington, D.C. Ed also was a graduate of the Arthur Murray Professional School of Dance in Washington D.C. He taught ballroom and Latin dancing. He was a veteran of the Army Air Forces during WWII. Ed was a pilot in training, until the war ended and he was honorably discharged. He retired from Honeywell of Clearwater as an engineer with 30 years of service. Ed loved ballroom dancing, playing table tennis twice a week at the Long Center, and flying his radio control airplanes at the S.P.A.R.K.S. field. Ed was a dedicated husband, father, brother and granddaddy to his family. He is survived by his wife Margaret of 56 years, his children Robert E. Jr. (Bob), Margaret L. (Marci), Garrett J. (Gary) and their families. He also leaves behind 3 brothers, John A. Mills II, W. Hartwick Mills Jr., and William B. Mills all of North Carolina. Ed is preceded in death by his sister Myrtle Mills Hilton. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday February 23,2013 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the reception hall at St. Matthias Lutheran Church,2751 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, FL
